How did Fake Followers Scam Start? All this started a while ago when Mumbai police exposed an international racket. That involved the creation of fake profiles, fake followers, and likes to accounts, and other fraud activities.
Recently, Singer Bhoomi Trivedi complained about the creation of a fake Instagram account by her name. Moreover, when the police investigated this matter they exposed few websites that sell fake social media followers.
Under the IT Act, which deals with cyber and electronic resources, section 66D states, “Whoever, through any communication device or computer resource cheats by personation, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years and shall also be liable to fine which may extend to one lakh rupees”.
And in accordance with IT Act, 66E Publishing private images of others states, “If a person captures, transmits or publishes images of a person’s private parts without his/her consent or knowledge shall be Imprisoned up to three years, or/and with fine up to ₹200,000.
