After Telangana, Rajasthan is the second state in the nation to launch the MahilaNidhi programme. This initiative aims to enhance women self-help organisations by facilitating bank financing and raising the income of women from low-income households and socially marginalised groups.

On Friday, Women’s Equality Day, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot introduced a programme called MahilaNidhi to assist women in maintaining their livelihoods and launching some small businesses for their economic advancement.

According to the announcement, the State Government’s plan will assist women in starting enterprises by making financing through the “MahilaNidhi” programme easily accessible.In this instance, the Chief Minister stated that in order to improve the status of women in society, social attitudes and behaviours need to change. According to him, the state government has a number of welfare programmes for women. The state government had stated in the budget for 2022–2023 that it will create “MahilaNidhi” under the Rajasthan Rural Livelihood Development Council.

About the Scheme:

Under this programme, loans up to Rs.40, 000 will be put in the group’s members’ bank accounts within 48 hours, and loans over Rs.40,000 would be deposited in their accounts within 15 days. In 33 districts, 2.70 lakh self-help groups have currently been established, and 30 lakh families are interconnected. It is suggested that 50,000 self-help groups emerge in 2022–2023, serving around 6 lakh families.

According to their needs, the state’s 36 lakh families would gradually get payments from Rajasthan MahilaNidhi. The state government, according to the chief minister, is dedicated to ensuring the safety of women and girls in the state, empowering them in terms of self-defense, and educating them about their legal rights. The Chief Minister gave loans totalling Rs.1.42 crore to the members of 386 self-help groups in six districts from Rajasthan MahilaNidhi on the occasion of the program’s debut. He also gave rewards to eight Rajeevika community cadre ladies.

In support of his claim that his state is breaking records in the field of education, the chief minister noted that more girls than boys are applying for admission to institutions of higher learning.
