IIT Madras won first place in Atal ranking | For innovation achievements
IIT Madras: The Indian Institute of Technology IIT-Madras once again gained its position as the top ‘innovative educational institution’ in the country for the second time. The ranking for institutions in Innovation Achievements was announced by Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday. Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievement (ARIIA) was launched last year by the Ministry of Education.

IIT Madras was selected as the topper in ‘Institutions of National Importance, Central Universities. A total of 674 Institutions participated in the ARIIA and last year, 496 institutions participated.
“Innovation must become the heartbeat for education. To create a favorable environment for experimentation, India’s higher education system should play the role of an enabler and force multiplier, to drive Indian innovation and start-up ecosystem,” Mr. Naidu said.
Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Union Education Minister said, “Innovation, and hence, the ARIIA will be the foundation stone for the new India which will be self-reliant. The rankings aim to acknowledge the efforts of institutes which are coming up with new innovations and bridging the gap between industry and innovation.”
Director of IIT-M Bhaskar Ramamurthi said, “IIT Madras is known for its world-class innovation ecosystem consisting of the Research Park and several other centers that have already produced world-class companies and disruptive technologies for India.”
The Centre For Innovation has started the ‘tech’ space where the projects have gone on to produce high-profile start-ups. ‘Nirmaan’ seeks out students with ideas that have commercial potential and puts them through a one-year program.
